Work Experience 2018

From the 29th of January students in year 10 spent five days undertaking work experience at a range of businesses from law firms to pet shops. Below are some of the students testimonials about their experiences.

Gleiselle Cachero W3

I worked at the Metro Pharmacy during work experience. I had to stock shelves, process invoices, verify customer IDs and prescriptions. I enjoyed dealing with difficult customers as it was a challenging experience. I am interested in studying pharmacy in the future and the business has offered me part time work.

Amari Stowe B8

I went to Cedars Manor Primary School as a classroom assistant. On the first day I was in Reception class helping the students with their vocabulary and sounding out letters. We did some guided reading as well. The following day I was in Year 1 helping with maths, English and science. The younger years were a lot calmer than I remembered and the school was quite strict. I enjoyed playing basketball with the Year 6 students at break.

Lucy Lawson E5

I completed my work experience week at Uria Menendez, the largest law firm in Spain. Their offices are in central London near Bank underground station. I took part in conference calls to Beijing, New York, Madrid and Portugal. I was given a case file to read through by one of the solicitors and then had to investigate and research a company involved. I have decided to study law at university in the future based on my experience.

Cindy Chen W9

I completed work experience at The Café In The Park in Rickmansworth. I had to do some taste testing, cleaning dishes and mopping floors as well as serving on the tills. I enjoyed working on the tills the most as I enjoyed interacting with the customers. They offered me some further paid work in the holidays based on my work experience week.

Shira Lang E7

I worked at Baxters Medical Devices for my work experience. I gained experience in many of the different departments of the business from finance and manufacturing to quality assurance. I learned that the production of medical devices requires a lot of safety testing and quality assurance before they enter the market. I helped produce artificial bones for surgery using the 3D printing device. Having completed work experience I would like to study medicine at university.

Deniss Hortopan M9

I was working at Subway during work experience week preparing sandwiches, dealing with customers and using the till. I had to remember the entire menu off-by-heart to advise the customers on their food choices and allergies. By the end of my time there I was offered a job on Saturdays.

Joseph Downie and Nathan Carvalho also helped out in the music department to gain experience in instrumental tuition.
