Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8)

At the academy students receive 2 lessons a week in Physical Education. During Years 7 and 8 students will study the following topics which allow them to:

Autumn Term

Boys- Football, Table Tennis, Fitness training and Rugby

Girls- Netball, Fitness training, Table tennis and Gymnastics.

Winter Term

Boys- Basketball, Gymnastics and Outdoor Adventurous Activities

Girls- Trampolining and Outdoor Adventurous activities.

Summer Term

Boys- Rounders, Cricket, Athletics and Tennis.

Girls- Rounders, Athletics and Tennis.

The activities chosen give the students an opportunity to achieve the following:

  • use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games.
  • take part in outdoor and adventurous activities which present intellectual and physical challenges and be encouraged to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group
  • perform dances using advanced dance techniques within a range of dance styles and forms
  • develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports such as athletics and gymnastics.

Enrichment: Students have the opportunity to develop their skills further at a wide range of sports clubs both at lunchtime and after school. These include football, rugby, netball, cricket, tennis, basketball, table tennis and athletics. The school teams compete in both district leagues and district cups. Alongside this they also take part in various county competitions.
