The Academy Houses
At the core of the philosophy of the Academy is that every individual counts and that the care and education of students must be the origin of any development. To ensure that no person‘s needs are neglected or overlooked there are the four Academy Houses, as yet unnamed; we look forward
enthusiastically to the outcomes of the student consultation which will give us the names ready for September.
Each house is led by a Head of House. This member of staff has no teaching commitment and is charged with the responsibility of ensuring all students in his or her House achieve the best that they can. Because the Academy will be small in September, the relationships formed between each Head of House and the 150 students in their care will be strong. The role of the Head of House, all day, every day, is to monitor the progress of their students, to remove any barriers to learning and to ensure the wellbeing of each individual in that house.
In this task Heads of House will be supported by Form Tutors, each taking responsibility for a vertical tutor group of no more than 18 people, and older students in the Academy who through vertical tutoring will have the opportunity to guide their younger friends in the tutor group.
