Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
September 2009 sees the launch of the Duke of Edinburgh‘s Award at the Bushey Academy. We will be launching the Silver Award in September for the Sixth Form and the Bronze Award in January/February for Year 9.
This is an exciting and challenging award that involves the four sections below:
- Volunteering
- Service
- Physical
- Expedition
The students will all have log books to log their progress that will be signed off here at school. When all 4 sections are completed, they will gain this very prestigious award.
The expedition is the most challenging section, with training in school leading up to the practice and assessed expeditions.
The expedition for the Bronze Award will be for one night and two days, where the students taking part have to plan their route, navigate accurately (with maps!) and be able to cook and camp themselves. The venue for this is yet to be decided, but is most likely to be in the Peak District.
The Silver Award expedition spans three days and two nights where the students will have to carry out similar tasks as the Bronze but at a more challenging level.
This is a very exciting opportunity for the students of the Academy to make a difference to their lives and the lives of other people.
