Healthy Lifestyles

Physical Activity

As part of an ambitious and wide ranging PSHCE programme, our students will be encouraged throughout the academic year to participate in different sporting activities and to explore the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.

For example, a number of students train free at a local gym as part of their enrichment activities, and several individuals are involved each week with both football and table tennis. The girls in Year 12 and 13 have also recently raised a football team; they will be practising each Friday after school and we have just agreed some joint training sessions with Watford Grammar School for Girls. Our P.E staff can provide you with advice on how to develop your physical fitness, but the following link is also informative:

Things to Avoid

To further raise students’ awareness about healthy lifestyles, one of our CAD day sessions will be led by a doctor who will explore the impact that smoking and drinking excessive alcohol can have on the human body. Indeed, we encourage all students to be aware of such dangers from the start of their time with us. A simple click on either of the following links provides some independent learning and hard-hitting guidance:

Sixth Form Cookery Programme

Useful though such warnings can be, at heart we believe in proactive health education and so we have also recently instigated an ambitious programme in which every Sixth Form student spends time, at various points of the year, in the kitchen at Cucina. During Stage One, they learn about food hygiene and preparation, and in Stage Two they get some hands- on -tips about how to prepare healthy meals for themselves.

Furthermore, throughout the year, the students have access to a downloadable APP for their mobile phones, in which they can access specific healthy food ideas, and there is also our Recipe of the Month suggestion. Once the VLE is in operation, our Head Chef will also be filming demonstrations and uploading ideas onto a dedicated Healthy Lifestyle area for the Sixth Form.  Additionally, Year 13 students have a pre-university food preparation seminar, led yet again by our energetic head chef at Cucina.
