Tolerance and Respect

One of the joys of life at the academy is that we are a diverse and multi-cultural school, with students from a wide range of backgrounds, faiths, and personal situations.

We actively celebrate our diversity, and this can be seen in a whole host of activities, including:

  • Year assemblies
  • European Day of Languages
  • House Music and Drama Competitions
  • Black History Month
  • Aspirational role models from the Black, Asian and LGBTQ communities
  • External speakers from different faith organisations
  • Weekly national and international news round up in form time

We are also developing a range of visual art and wall mountings celebrating our diversity.

Theme and Role Model of the Week

We can all learn from each other, and also from aspirational individuals in the wider world who have demonstrated particular personal characteristics and qualities that have enabled them to succeed in a notable way.

Each week, 15 minutes of form time is given over for a whole class discussion around a particular Theme of the Week – for example, Kindness or Courage – and each student learns about a particular individual who has been chosen to be our Role Model of the Week.

Below are some examples of our most recent Themes and Role Models of the Week:

Nelson Mandela

Stan Brock

Malala Yousafzai

Diane Leather

Henry Fraser
