The Religious Education programme at The Bushey Academy contributes to the spiritual, moral and cultural development of all students. The Academy follows the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus and interprets this to the needs of our students.
Religious Studies is one of the most important subjects on the school curriculum because students learn about different religions and how they work and what they believe. They also learn and understand from religion what and why others believe; this is an essential part of living in a multi-cultural, multi-faith society and is a qualification that future employers like to see on a CV.
Why does my child study RS?
You don’t have to be “religious” to study RS. The nature of RS is that it enables students and young people to learn about religion and learn from religion and its impact on our society. It is essentially concerned with exploring and responding to religion throughout the key stages. However, it aims ultimately to promote the student’s moral and ethical awareness and approach to all issues affecting us in culture and society. In every lesson and every topic there is a big emphasis on having respect for the religion and beliefs of others.
What is studied in RS?
Syllabus content is developed through the key stages. In key stage 3 students learn about and from religion which in turn promotes awareness of our multi-cultural society.
Religious Studies is taught for one lesson a week and includes homework.
