We aim to develop
We aim to develop students who are confident readers, writers, speakers and
listeners. They can make sense of the world around them and contribute their ideas in a variety of ways.
Facilities
We have a suite of English rooms that have access to a variety of equipment, including projectors, CD players and a range of texts to suit all ages and abilities.
Curriculum
Key Stage 3 - Students in Years 7 and 8 have five lessons a week. Exciting and challenging schemes of work have been designed to fit in with the National Curriculum and Literacy Strategy. An independent reading programme is run throughout the Key Stage and students enjoy one designated reading lesson a fortnight.
Key Stage 4 - Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 have four and six lessons a week respectively in preparation for their English Language and English Literature examinations. Controlled Assessment, both written and oral, is worked on in Year 10 with Year 11 being the year to concentrate on examination skills and techniques.
Key Stage 5 - The English Department offers the AQA Specification B for AS and A-Level Literature.
