DRAMA DEPARTMENT NEWS UPDATE

The Drama Department has had a very busy first half term at the new academy.

One of the biggest changes is that we have combined both Music and Drama in Years 7 and 8 to form ‘Performing Arts’  although this is not to dissimilar to what you will have been used to before, it is allowing the two departments to work together more and combine the idea of performance.  Studentss have been working on the topics of Harry Potter in Year 7 and have been studying West Side Story in Year 8.  Students continue to attend Drama Club, run by Miss Finn.  If you are interested in taking part please see Miss Finn for more information.

You will have been aware that the first House Drama Competition is underway, unfortunately due to the bad weather we have had to change the date of the event.  The competition will now take place on the 10th February 2010.  The competition is run by pupils, directed by pupils and organized by the Heads of House.  Please come along and support the pupils!  Also if you are cast member of any of the performances please make sure that you attend all rehearsals!

The department is planning lots of things in the next two terms we have lots more trips coming up, and hopefully some exciting work with the Mousetrap Foundation, an organisation giving us the opportunity to go to see some shows at a cheaper price that normal.  Also following in the footsteps of the last school musical Bugsy Malone, I am planning on putting on a new production in the summer!  At the moment I am trying to sort out the finances and all of the administration so watch this space.

The department is also planning on entering this year’s Bushey and South West Herts Drama festival, we will be entering the Year 13 practical performance ‘Bury it and be done…’ and will be looking for pupils from other year groups to take part.  Please make sure you look at the drama website for up to date information  www.dramaatthebusheyacademy.ik.org

Friday 29th January sees the final practical examination of the current Year 13 Drama students.  The performance starts at 7.30 in the Drama studio and you are all welcome to attend. GCSE students have just been grouped for their paper 2 examination and we look forward to seeing their work performed to an examiner in May.

This term we have attended many trips, Academy Sponsor David Meller arranged for the 6th form students to spend some time with the actors of the Shawshank Redemption at the Wyndhams Theatre London which they really enjoyed and found very useful.  Other trips have included:  Twelfth Night at the RSC Stratford Upon Avon, Woman in Black, Blood Brothers, Shawshank Redemption, The Lion King Mr. J Wride Head of Drama  www.dramaatthebusheyacademy.ik.org
