Alternative Provision
All students have different learning styles and Alternative Provision is aimed at students who prefer a more hands on approach to learning. At the end of Year 9 students will choose their options and be given the chance to enter a vocational based learning programme.
West Herts College
Some students may be given the chance to attend West Herts College one day a week, where they will study a vocational subject that interests them, such as hairdressing, motor mechanics, construction, electrical engineering and catering. The Headstart Course allows students to achieve a nationally recognised qualification by the time they are 16, which is two years ahead of students just leaving school and starting on the same courses.
Tec@Tabard
We also have students studying at Tec@Tabard , based at Radlett Rugby Club. This new venture has been extremely successful as students have been engaged in a number of projects, for which they will gain a nationally recognised qualification, including carpentry, plumbing, brickwork and horticulture. Students have harvested crops and cooked their own lunches using the vegetables and herbs they have grown themselves.
Edexcel Workskills
Tabard have introduced Edexcel Workskills which means students will gain a qualification while engaging in the practical activities at Tabard.
In the academy, we will be adding to achieving this recognised qualification so that all students on an Alternative Provision Programme should all gain a minimum of a Certificate in Workskills, which is equivalent to a GCSE.
