The first phase of redevelopment is well under way, with a T-shaped complex of 90 cabins, specifically designed and built for purpose, which will form part of the temporary school, providing students and teaching staff with the highest standards of comfort and functionality throughout the construction project.

New Academy Buildings Opening 2012

The new buildings will provide state-of-the-art accommodation for 1350 students, including 300 post-16 students with the twin specialisms of Business and Communication.  The building project is due for completion in Autumn 2012.

The main entrance is located on the south elevation adjacent to the Main Hall. In front of it will be a new pedestrian plaza. The 3-storey glass façade will provide an open and welcoming entrance to the academy, allowing views through into the building and to the landscaped quadrangle. The quadrangle incorporates amphitheatre type seating to allow for outdoor performances and new covered walkways to the south and north sides.

The central 3-storey Market Place (atrium), will be the focal point of the academy which will showcase its specialisms. It provides a variety of informal meeting, teaching and learning spaces, dining, an internet café and will have state of the art ICT facilities. There are a wide range of teaching spaces, from the traditional classroom, to the more open-plan studios and workshops.

The Main Hall and the Dining Hall, retained buildings from the original school, are still to be used by the academy and the community.  In addition, a new Sports Hall, 300 seat theatre, sports pitches and a Multi Use Games Area, will also be available for community use.

The parkland to the front will be enhanced with new tree planting, paths and seating and will have a new entrance at the junction of Falconer Road and London Road to facilitate access from Bushey Village.
